| Called the "It bag of the future" by Teen Vogue, this stylish and ridiculously practical bag (sold in packages of 3 and 6) is one easy step in helping save the planet. Baggu ("bag" in Japanese) is machine washable, and folds up into it's own pouch small enough to tuck into your handbag or pocket. Made of super-tough ripstop nylon in bright, fun colors, it's the re-usable bag that's eco-chic. | | Photos courtesy of Dan Martensen. | Why Baggus are so great? You want to replace your old friends, the paper & plastic bags, with something that does their job without creating needless waste or harming the environment. Using one Baggu for one year replaces 300 to 700 disposable bags. -
One Baggu holds the contents of 2 to 3 plastic grocery bags. Six bags can hold a whole cart full of groceries. -
Baggu Bag handles are the perfect length: you can hold them in your hand, on your forearm, or over your shoulder. -
They are made from super strong rip-stop nylon (holds 25 lbs) so they are light (2 oz) and compactible. They fold into a flat 5 by 5 inch pouch that easily slips in a purse or pocket. That way they are always handy when you need them. -
Baggu bags have a nice big gusset in the bottom so they will sit flat when they are filled (good for eggs & milk.) | | Smart Design Baggu was designed by mother-daughter team Joan and Emily in California. They both saw the need for a better reusable bag, and after dozens of prototypes, came up with a solution that makes using reusable bags stylish, practical and easy. | | Baggu is great whether you shop on foot or drive to the store, you always need to have a bag or two that fold up small and can be carried in your purse, ready for an unexpected errand. | | | We use lightweight, hard working fabrics to make bags that will perform years of service in all of our daily toting tasks: groceries, pharmacy purchases, gifts, and books, and pet food, and clothes and ... All the tons of things we find ourselves accepting a disposable bag to bring home. Changing our own shopping habits is one small thing we can do to make a difference. We hope you feel good every time you use your BAGGU. | Plastic Bags & the Planet The average family brings home 1,000 bags every year. Most of those bags end up in land fills. That really adds up - 100 billion plastic bags are sent to landfill in the US each year. In landfills, it can take up to 1000 years for a bag to decompose. Plastics don't biodegrade, they photo-degrade, breaking down into tiny toxic pieces that contaminate soil and water or harm wildlife. Every time you use your Baggu bag instead of plastic or paper you are doing something good. |

Know what you're getting August 28, 2008 Some BAGGU products have the little keeper bag sewn onto the larger bag. On this one the little bag is separate. Not as useful.
Reusable shopping bags August 22, 2008 Great product because it folds up small. I have a truck and all of them pack right into the bin behind the seat, and the fit easily into a purse. The bags are a generous size, and true to advertising - you can fit several plastic grocery bags worth in one nylon bag. The only improvement would be if they could make them so the carrier pouch stays attached. I throw it inside the bag, but I'm always afraid I'll lose one.
Great Substitution for Paper or Plastic August 20, 2008 These bags are a great substitution for the traditional paper or plastic bags at retail stores. I typically spend $150 or so per trip to the grocery store, and I have no problem fitting my cartful of groceries into six of these bags. They're thin but relatively sturdy, and they're small enough to stash in my purse when I'm not using them.
I dislike the pouches that the bags fit into, however; I wish they were attached. I'm afraid I'm going to lose one of them.
Overall, a great buy. The price is worth the feeling that you're doing your part to help the environment.
Baggu is the BEST! August 17, 2008 I was kind of skeptical when I first saw these bags. But I'm trying to do my part to "save the world" and I thought these looked cool. Well, this is the best purchase I've made to date from Amazon. Not only are these bags really tough, they are sooo roomy. The photos don't do justice to how huge they are! You can fit 3x what you can fit in one plastic shopping bag from the supermarket. And they are so durable you can jam pack them with stuff and they still hold up. Baggu definitely gets an A+ in my book!
Not expensive for its quality August 2, 2008 To those who complain about the cost of these bags, they should take note that the material used for these bags is RIPSTOP nylon, the same material used in parachutes and hot air balloons. The fabric is reinforced with crossthreads,so it is very strong and durable. Chicobags, e.g., use ordinary nylon, and there were complaints that some of these bags tore after a couple of months use. Ripstop nylon won't tear easily and, unlike ordinary nylon, any tears that might occur won't spread (hence the name), but the fabric is more expensive. Cotton is sturdy and a lot cheaper than ripstop nylon, but most grocery totes made of cotton are heavier, bulkier, and do not fold compactly, and so are less likely to be carried with one routinely. If you want lightweight, durable, and portable, ripstop nylon is the way to go, but you will have to pay more for it.
